What Actually Happens at a Modeling Casting

The word "casting" makes a lot of new models picture a long line and a panel of judges. Most castings are much simpler than that, and a few small habits make a big difference to who gets the job.

Step one is the virtual casting

At House of Wild, almost every job starts virtually. We send the job details to models who fit the brief, and you tell us whether you're available and want to be put forward. That yes is your virtual casting.

Reply within the time we give you. Clients often choose from whoever confirms first, and a slow reply can take you out of the running before anyone sees your photos.

Step two, if the client asks, is in person

Some clients want to meet a shortlist before they book. An in-person casting is usually short. You'll check in, have a few digitals taken, maybe walk or try a pose, and you're done.

The client is looking at how you look today, how you take direction and whether you're easy to work with. Being kind to the person at the front desk counts too.

What to wear

Wear simple, fitted black unless the brief says otherwise. Black lets the client see your shape and imagine you in their product, and nothing you're wearing pulls focus.

  • Fitted black top and black jeans or leggings

  • Clean hair, pulled back or down as the brief asks

  • Light makeup, or none

  • Heels in your bag if it's a fashion job

Arrive early

Plan to be there 10 minutes before your time. Castings run on tight slots, and a late arrival can mean your slot goes to someone else.

After the casting

You won't always hear back right away, and you don't need to follow up with the client. If you're booked, your agency will confirm the details and send the call sheet.
